Freakout V50 2005

Hi all, so I was just driving home when my V50 completely freaked out and showed me all sorts of messages ranging from "brake failure" to "fill washer fluid," only nothing was actually wrong. In addition the wipers started going on their own at full blast, only to change to medium speed, then to intermittent, then to off over a period of about 5 minutes. Also the clock and trip odometers reset. Clearly some sort of electrical problem. Then when I got home and tried to turn the car off, the key won't turn to the off position and now the car won't start at all. The message now says something about the immobilizer, but I tried to do the door lock/unlock thing to reset that but it won't actually do anything because it is in the ignition. Anyone ever have anything like this happen and what on earth should I expect for a repair? AAA is on their way, I'm afraid to disconnect the battery while in use. Thanks in advance.

Just a reminder for those of us that are curious, post back with the diagnosis.

I place a bet on the DIM going through a factory checklist. If it is a faulty DIM, look up

For a real repair. Beats the dealer by a mile.

I was going to suggest shifting to N and then trying to start the engine. Your car does not know it is in P, so you cannot get the key out. Also open the hood and make sure the ground on the battery is tight.

You could call a Priest?

Good idea! Wish I'd thought of that before it got towed. Now I'm wondering if something went wrong with the computer?

I have seen stuff like that from dirty battery terminals. Any faulty/intermittent connection at the battery, or, I suppose at a ground can simulate demonic possetion. Your car is not truly possessed, however. You didn't have to walk home through a field of molten lava. Or perhaps you did, and didn't think it was pertinent to the problem.
