clicking from the intake flap motor S60

I have an 02 s60 base car.

Sometimes when you turn the key on there is a clicking from the intake flap motor?

The car will sometimes rev up and sometimes it will just run stumbly, probably related to the flapper opening and closing.

Has anyone run into this? What is the cause? wiring issues or is the flapper dead? anything else.

Thanks for your help

clicking from the ETM S60

That noise is the electronic throttle module trying to open the throttle butterfly. Either the throttle is very dirty, causing the butterfly to stick, or the ETM actuator is stuck.

I would clean the throttle body before I let a novice mechanic get near the engine bay. It is not difficult to remove the ETM and intake hose and spray with a can of TB cleaner, using an old toothbrush for the more stubborn dirt.

Do not force the butterfly open.

Is there a way to fix the etm actuator if it is sticking/dirty?

I will clean the throttle plate/body, but I suspect it is something else because it makes a rapid random clicking sound only sometimes. other times it works perfect.

You lost me with the 'intake flap' motor. Where is this device?

I'm sorry maybe that is not what it is called.

The thing that is between the intake boot coming from the airbox and the intake manifold.

I think it opens and closes to allow air into the engine. It also has some electronics going to it like a TPS or something.

in the old days it would be like a throttle body.
