Wandering due to road crown, uneven travel feel lock to lock, general things to do V70-XC70 2007

125k, pretty sure its on original struts.

Alignment just verified, but my new to me XC70 wanders to the right in the right lane, left in the left. Usually this is an alignment issue, but is this typical of the model? It doesn't fly to the left or right, but clearly drifts out of the lane if you loosen up on the wheel.

I'd also noticed that if you turn the steering all the way to one side or the other, like when you are 3 point turning, that it goes from generally "heavy" feel most of the way to one side, but then that last 1/2 turn of the steering wheel just suddenly flops over quickly and easily. As if suddenly you are hitting a very well greased part of the parts - hard to describe.

I've had 240's, 740's and S70, so wondering if much of this is that bigger wagon feel or something to fix (that's hopefully fun to fix!).

The ride is cushy and heavy, compared to my 245Turbo and 745Turbo, both which had IPD sway bars. Is there a chance of making this car handle like those?

First, the handling. No, it is not supposed to do that. Probably sloppy strut mount bushings - verify that by trying to tighten the large nut on top of the strut towers. You should feel a lot of resistance and a bounce back to the original position, I use channel lock pliers.

Try rotating the tires, front to back and see if that makes a difference. Sometimes tread design plays a large part in the 'wandering'.

If the alignment was checked on the front, was it checked for the rears? If the rear is slightly out, that would also cause problems.

As for the PS, your car came with Pentosin fluid. It's not cheap and there is no substitute. Make sure it is topped off at the correct level. Have a helper turn the wheel with the hood up and watch/listen to the pump and fluid as the helper gets to lock.

      Thanks Klaus.

Here were the specs given to me after alignment:

      Camber -1.0 -0.4 -0.6
      Toe 0.11 0.08

      Rear
      Camber -0.5 -0.1 -0.4
      Toe 0.08 0.02 0.07

      Total Toe 0.15
      Thrust Angle 0.01

Unsure if this helps, but thought I'd provide it.
