Volvo engine codes? V70-XC70 1999

Will the OBD II readers at Advance and AutoZone read Volvo codes that aren't necessarily CEL codes?

My car wouldn't start Monday morning. Since I had had the doors open for hours the day before while I installed (twice) an amp and SC901, I figured the battery was low and needed charging. Even after charging all night, it still wouldn't start the next day. I finally got it started last night and drove it today. Before I start in on a tuneup, I thought I would check to see if it has any codes and wondered if Advance was a waste of time.

Thanks, David

Usually a waste of time. While some scanners will show 'pending' codes, usually the absence of a check engine light means any codes that were set will be turned off. Remember, the generic scanners will only report on engine and emission related failures, not nice to know things like security problems or manufacture specific items.

Fuel delivery problems will not set codes. A temporary CPS or MAF problem will clear itself upon engine start and not turn on the CEL.
