Removing a door from an 850 850

This is premptive. When the day comes that a white 850 shows up at the local pick&pull, I want to be ready. I read this on Matthews:

http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=27840

But, can I just remove the door by freeing up the hinge pins and lifting it up and out????? This would settle alignment problems and allow a single person to remove/install the door. The window will be rolled up, no choice as the P&P has no battery supplied to the cars.

The hinge pin has an external torx screw, whatever that is for. I couldn't see the bottom of the hinge pin to see if there is a bolt on it or not.

If you have done this - let me know.

    Removing a door from an 850 850

    Klaus,

Good Luck to you in your door search. The rear door hatch on my '96 850 wagon was repaired due to a rear hit, but I was never really satisfied with the end result. Is it very difficult to swap out the rear door/hatch on '96 850 wagon? I ask because maybe some day I might swap it out too. By the way, thank you for your questions you pose. I always learn something.

    Hugh

The rear hatch is a bit more difficult than a trunk lid, but not bad. The hardest thing is removing the rear panels to expose the bolts and wiring plug.

I did get a newer door and trunk with spoiler and both were easy fit. The trunk was 4 bolts and a wire plug. (the spoiler made it more difficult because of the stop light).

ANSWER Removing a door from an 850 850

It is just that simple and convenient on the 850/S70, provided the door is not locked. Loosen the torx, unplug the harness (the connector is right there by the hinges) and lift away. Setting in place is easier with two people of course. There might be a tiny lock screw on the harness collar too.

This post has been marked as an answer to the original question.

Removing a door from an 850 is easy 850

Thank you, thank you! I thought there would be an easy way. Now all I have to do is wait for a white 850 to show up. I also want to grab a rear deck lid, mine looks like a bear tried to get into it, or a snow plow.

        There's a white 98 V70 here in Wilmington now.

That's nice. But none of the body panels will fit an 850. The wiring is all different also.

There are only 2 or 3 850's up here, none the correct color. And they tend to get picked clean or trashed within one week. At least the prices are good.
