Dead battery... S60 2006

Battery is dead. Jump start the engine you say. There is a problem…Battery on this car is in the back, under the trunk which is locked but can not be open since the battery is dead. Catch 22 if you will.
There is no outside key hole for trunk release.
Owner’s manual says to use emergency trunk release handle, but does not mention h.t.f. to get to it.
Rear seats do not fold forward, and I don’t know any humans with 7 feet arms. This is real PITA.

You really did not understand the manual. The emergency release is inside the trunk and requires that you be in the trunk. There is a small panel near the lights that illuminate the rear licence plate. Lever that open and you can use the car key to open the trunk.

Just checked my S60.

Yes there is a plastic cover above the license plate for your key. Certainly the easiest way to open the truck with a dead battery.

Second, the rear seats in all S60s fold forward. The problem is that the releases are in the trunk (a security thing). They are on the inside of the fender walls in the trunk.

Hi Martin,

FYI.

"I had the same question about my recently purchased 04 s60. If you reach under the deck on the outside of the trunk (just above the license plate) you will feel a soft rubbery rectangular area. If you push up on it, there is a switch inside that releases the trunk. If the vehicle is locked, this will not work. I didn't notice it until i was detailing the car last week. I thought I always had to use the remote to open it and thought it was a little strange. :-) "

As other members have already mentioned, please find out your jumping location.

On newer MB cars, you can damage the computers if you don't use the jumping post. So complicated...

Good Luck!

ruafm? Speak English and read the manual (espically if you have never looked under a hood, previously).

Open the hood and use the jump posts. Once connected, even a weak battery can supply enough voltage to open the trunk.

Read the manual before removing the battery, newer cars have a set procedure so the computers don't get messed up.

I didn't realize the rear seats on the S60 don't flip forward. Option only? Strange.

My daughter's 2007 S60 certainly has rear seats that flip forward .... S60 2006

Maybe he just hasn't looked for the release. My daughter's '07 seats definitely flip forward -- she and her husband stow their bikes in the back instead of using an outside bike carrier.

Are you sure that under the ledge that houses the license plate lights that there is not a little rubber cover that you pry open to expose the key hole? Our 05 S80 has that.

I don`t know about S60`s but wife`s XC70 has "jump" posts.....driver`s side(under hood of course) black plastic cover with + & - symbols, just flip that up & away you go. She had a dead battery a few years ago & I was stymied & frustrated until I read the owner`s manual.

I don't know anything about an S60, but some manufacturers install remote "jump" locations under the hood for cars with rear mounted batteries.

Maybe your car has posts just for jumping under the hood?
