I'm shopping for a 2nd gen XC and my budget keeps pushing me toward '01s and '02s.
I've had great advice here and found an '02 with a dealer replaced tranny a few years ago.
My question is with that generation AWD system. I had read somewhere that it is not an effective AWD, only directing small amounts of torque to the rear wheels in low traction situations. Is this true?
I certainly don't plan to drive like an idiot but I live in Northern Utah where we get more than our share of winter and slippery conditions.
Would a well cared for 2002 XC have an AWD sYstem that would help the car up a hill or through snow? Or was that AWD system more feel good and marketing?
