Needing more light from headlights V70-XC70

At 73 night vision is going. Have new clear headlight lenses to install ...... but have a couple of questions about reflectors and bulbs.

What are options for restoring/improving brightness of reflectors?

What bulbs will provide max. light out put?

Plan to do what I can to re-store reflectors and install max. light output bulbs when I install new lenses.

Thanks.

Reflectors can not be touched, period. The coating is so thin and delicate, a finger or glove will mar the finish.

The DOT lenses are garbage, they diffuse the light rather than direct it for night vision. There are Ecode lenses that help throw a flat cutoff beam down the road.

The best bet is to find a pair of 2004 C70 modules, complete with reflector, to replace the old DOT lights.

Replacing the bulbs with stronger, hotter light will only destroy the wiring.

Needing more light from headlights - USA DOT-specified units fundamentally flawed V70-XC70

There was a lot of discussion about the lights 5+ years ago. The fundamental problem with cars sold in USA was that the DOT-specified reflectors and lenses lost or wasted a lot of light because the light flared out all over the road. This was in contrast to the precisely-aimed beam and sharp cutoff from the true European lenses and reflectors. In other words, the DOT light units were hopeless; brighter bulbs would not help much. For my V70, a friend brought back the genuine Hella units from Sweden, and they made an immense improvement. But that is an expensive alternative for an old V70 today - new Hellas may cost more than an entire V70. I do not have a good solution, sorry.

Are you sure they're correctly aimed? Check here for instructions on aiming. As far as I know, your car still has the knobs for adjustment.

If your light isn't going down on the road, it won't matter how bright the bulbs are. All you'll do is annoy the people driving in front you. Over time (and plenty of component wear: from tires, through suspension, and even the headlights themselves)) the bulbs can come up off the road. Before you blow a bunch of money, try the free thing!

I have been happy with Sylvania Silverstars for what they cost.

If your reflectors are bad, you cannot do much that won't make them even worse. The reflective coating is very fragile.

You might think about buying new headlight assemblies from one of the vendors that this board recommends - shop around.

Try selling your old assemblies on BB, ebay, or craigslist.
