Hello All:

I picked up a set of 4 nice Cetus 6 spoke rims to replace the rusty and slightly bent winter steel wheels I have run on my 2000 V70 the last two seasons. I ran into a hitch when installing them. My summer wheels are the factory alloys that came with the car that have the exposed chrome lug nuts. The problem is that the Cetus center caps won't fit over the chrome lug nuts. Does anyone know of a source for shorter lug nuts?

Most junk yards will have them by the bucket full. Those are the lugnuts you should have been using with the steel wheels.

I couldn't find them locally at the pick-and-pulls-- at the yards I frequent they go to the lot minus wheels, fluids and AC hoses.

I did some looking around regarding the use of the alloy wheel lug nuts with steelies, and read that the fundamental difference (besides chrome plating) was that they were longer on the hex part of the lug to prevent damage to the alloys when using impact tools:

I counted the threads in the pictures-- it looks the ones for alloys and steel wheels are the same length. The shoulder slope is the same as well.

In any case, LilHelpHere came to the rescue with a used set!

I have some lugs from steel wheels. Is that what you need?
