hard starting V70-XC70 2001

Hi all,
My recently aquired (80467 miles) 2001 n/a v70 has had the auto replaced (2010 at 65138 miles) and the etm replaced (still white label) and the software upgraded (2006 at 35454 miles) all by volvo. They also replaced the upper engine mount (to the square one 2005 at 28105 miles) and i replaced the lower transmission mount after the purchase.
So here goes: when i turn the engine off, i still get a thud thud from the engine bay and on inspection, it feels like the upper mount is the culprit. It moves back and forward a lot to my mind.
Sometimes i feel the engine hunts a little on idle but it does not register on the tacho.
Sometimes it is a little jerky when coming to a stop.
Still the ETM you think?
Sometimes when the engine is hot it takes a lot (10) of turns of the starter motor before it fires. The previous owner had it towed once when it wouldnt start and the techys at the dealership could find no fault.
Every thing is intermittent.
Any enlightenment would be appreciated with thanks.
David
Now that i read what i have written it appears i may expect too much from the upper engine mount upgrade!

I must have misled you. The starter motor turns over 8 to 10 times before it fires, intermittently and only when hot. Could it be a sensor issue of some sort?

    Hi Klaus,
    Yes, it is 10 turns
Yes, the temp gauge reads normal after 5 mins of driving
I will check those mounts out as advised and get to a dealer for the tranny stuff asap
Went for a long drive yesterday and noticed that the slight jerky feeling is also there when backing off. Another clue perhaps

Rather than turning the key to start 10 times, I suggest letting the starter run until the engine starts. That will be a better diagnosis.

You could also have a dirty throttle body that isn't letting in enough air.

You should never hear a noise when turning the engine off. To checck the upper mount, first visually check for cracks. Then with the car in park and engine off, hood up, rock the car a little and see if the mount gives a lot.

Check the lower mount by the crank gear (front of the engine), there should be good clearance between the crank and subframe.

Sounds like a typical first gen 5 speed automatic. Have the software checked at the dealer and sak about eliminating the shift to newutal when stopped and still in gear. Sometimes, the torque converter lockup does not disengage and your rpms will drop to almost zero when stopping - then the tranny unlocks and all is 'well.'

Is the dash temperature guage reading normal after 5 minutes of driving? A bum thermostat will make things rich.

You mean that you crank the engine for 10 seconds, or 10 turns to 'start'?
