extended warrenty S70 98

Would anyone suggest the extended warrenty offered by Volvo. I own a S70 t-5, and so far no serious problems have occured. Also, can you get the extended warrenty at 46,000 miles?

    I just purchased 98 V70 from Volvo dealer. They extended me VIP warranty to 72000 miles as part of the deal. If you buy from other than volvo dealer you won't get warranty past a standard 60 days they are required to offer.

      Well, I'd say buy the VIP if you can afford it!! VIP has recently (almost) doubled in price, it would have been $ 3600 (w/100.00 ded) for my '99 V70 w/ 24K miles, up from 2600.00 (w/50.00 ded) back in Nov 2000. The dealer I purchased my Volvo from in Dallas (Volvo of Dallas) claims they have only sold 1 VIP contract in the last 3 months. Instead they are offering a product from APCO (owned by Ford) called EasyCare. I got a comprehensive warranty for $1909 w/ $0 ded for 5yrs. 100K miles. This dealer is owned by Sonic, huge conglomerate of dealerships including many Ford dealers across US. I don't normally stray from the manf warranty fold, but for the dollars, I had too. I spoke with the Easy Care sales rep and he made a good case; claims they will pay any ASE certified shop within minutes by credit card, regardless of amount if you have their Total Care coverage (that's what I bought). I have only had 2 probs with my V70, but they have been significant.

    I think the Volvo VIP extended warranty can not be purchased if

    you have more then 30 or 35K miles (I forget exactly but I'm pretty

    sure your 46K is too high). (This is a fairly new policy for VIP).

    Have you owned the car since new? I've owned both of ours since new

    so I know their histories and feel comfortable not having any extended

    warranties on either of them (no major problems).

      Just ask at the dealership. In Canada, you can get the VIP extended warranty if your car has is under 78,000 KM (about 48,750 miles) (factory warranty in Canada is 80,000 KM which is the same as 50,000 miles).

      Personally, I'll probably get the extended warranty on ours (99 V70R) when the mileage gets closer to the limit. I see it is relatively cheap peace of mind and insurance.
