NEED HELP! Looking for brake rotors for a c70 AWD C70 98

I have a 98 C70 front wheel drive, that has warped front rotors. After consulting a Volvo Master Mechanic at my local dealer, he suggested that I get a set of C70 AWD front brake calipers and rotors.

Does anyone out there know of a place where I can get theses? My local dealer can't access theses since they are not sold in the United States due to Department of Transportation restictions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: NEED HELP! Looking for brake rotors for a c70 AWD C70 98

Just got done looking through the parts listing for calipers and rotors for c70 1998, and the AWDs. The rotors are the same, choice of two part numbers depending on VIN breaks, rotor parts # 272276, 271788. The calipers are even more of a VIN break down for the 1998 I didn't bother trying to figure out the differences, (i'm not a part guy). Just the fact that there are a lot of choices for the calipers tells me something is up. Maybe talking with a rep would clear up the difference and shed some light on your desire to make changes.

I have over 70K on my C70 on the same rotors and it has never warped. Man, I'm telling you, I got a miracle car. No problems whatsoever since I got it. Anyways, you might want to try the cross drilled rotors from IPD, give those a shot, I might since I have to replaced mine soon. Also, what type of driver are you? If you constantly slam on the brakes, then yeah, maybe the rotors wear out faster than they should.

      ME TOO! Brake rotors on a C70 C70 00

I got by second changeout of rear rotors on our C70 Conv. under warranty on Friday.

In my years of driving, I've never had any brake problems with my '70 Buick Skylark, '85 Dodge Charger or '90 Mazda Miata, and tend to get long use out of pads and have rare need for rotor work/replacement.

Obviously, having the need for a third set of rotors on a new car after less than 15 months and <11K on our Volvo is distressing.

Also: Since the latest work on Friday, I'm only getting 1 click out of my parking brake before it's tight

      1) Is this spec., or should I just wait for the old pads and new rotors to wear?

      2) I know the p-brake's attached to the rears, but I didn't think they'd adjust or reattach in a different spot at this time.

      3) Lastly: Might this cause yet more warping?

IPD now says this about cross drilled rotors on their web page:

We found that in reality the reduced surface area in the cross-drilled rotors only increased the likeliness of warping with street use.

    John-

I havn't seen anything on a C70 AWD- perhaps he meant a '99 V70R AWD. When installing snow tires on my '99, I discovered that 15" wheels won't clear the brakes. I had a set of 15" snows from another car and purchased the steel rims, hoping to use the tires on the 'new' car. I ended up having to buy new snows to fit the alloy wheels and delay the purchase of 16" steels until next winter. I haven't researched the hard differences between the rotors/calipers, other than the required 16" wheels. Before I stepped up for this upgrade, (high dollar) I would give a new set of OE rotors a try. The retail price for them should be less than $200/pr.

Are your warped rotors Brembo (as your signature suggests)?

While warped rotors are somewhat common I think the problem

can generally be addressed using the OEM parts. How about

going back to stock as a place to start?

    P.S.

I'm 99.998% sure there are no C70 AWDs in any market.

Yes, my current rotors are warped after 15,000 miles.

The reason that I switched to brembo cross drilled rotors was that the OEM rotors warped out 3 times in under 15,000 miles. The factory brake system is undersized for the weight and balance of the car and the performance that the car has. Therefore, going back to the OEM is not the right answer. The problem is guaranteed to come back unless I can make the rotors larger and spread the heat over a larger braking surface. That's why the Volvo mechanic recommended putting an Volvo AWD brake system on my car.

IPDs web site now has this text on their rotors page:

the cross-drilled rotors only increased the likeliness

        of warping with street use.

So, looks like they are now not advising use of cross-drilled

rotors on street cars. Sounds like they agree with you on

trying to get as much surface area as possible.

        John-

I haven't seen ANY of these cars warp rotors at the rate you describe. (3 sets in 15k!) And here in the Denver area, we have more than our share of hills and highways. Could the wheel lugs be overtightned? Have the hubs been checked for runout? Or are you just driving too damn fast?

Re: NEED HELP! Looking for brake rotors for a c70 AWD C70 98

Apparently here in california, it's a typical thing. My local dealer says that it is a very common problem to go through so many rotors especially if you visit the local mountains and then return to the beach. (Something having to do with the constant change in air tempature. Heat-Freezing-Heat)

I've checked the lugs and they are torqued properly, and I don't reuse the rotors once warped.

The issue is where I get bigger rotors to handle the heat and speed, not my driving. The car is a sports car, not a cadillac. Its meant to be driven fast not out cruising with the grand kids. If volvo builds a car that that is a quick as this one is, then they need to anticipate those people that are going to drive the car at its limits.

          John-

What pads are you using? I have seen aftermarket pads 'blue' the rotor due to overheating as a result of the poor braking/increased pedal pressure loop.

All OE rotors and pads- no vibration!!!

On the front I'm running carbon metallic pads by Axxis, and on the rear I'm running volvo factory OEM pads. I was told when I changed to brembo rotors to use carbon metallic by Axxis since they have a better chance of not warping since they are a higher tempeture pad and to keep volvo factory on the rear.

Are YOU smoking something or does your "Master" Tech smoke the big reefer?

I really would like to take a look of that "All-Wheel Drive" C70...I have heard a lot of things but this is special! :)
