Car Starts, But is Locked in (P)ark 850 1996

I have read about problems with the PNP sensor, switch etc. and I am exeriencing something different but may be related.

I can start the car without a problem, but cannot get out of park without pressing the shift lock override button.

Once I am underway, there are no issues with the transmission.

Is this also a common problem with the micro switch or PNP, or does it sound like another issue all together.

Thanks

Re: Car Starts, But is Locked in (P)ark 850 1996

I have 95 854T and it happened so many times. Go to Volvospeed.com for instruction. I decided to take micro switch out so that I don't have to deal with that problem anymore. Good luck.

Re: Car Starts, But is Locked in (P)ark 850 1996

So,

if I undertand correctly what you are saying, the two options are

1) replace the switch/solenoid

2) remove the switch which removes the function causing the problem.

By the way, right after I posted my question on this problem, it went away just as suddenly as it appeared. Only temporarily I suppose!

Thanks

Jeff

You are right. Either replace it or remove it. It will come back. Press the manual override to move the shifter back and forth from park to 2 a couple of times and it should work for a while.

I would have the switch and solenoid checked
