Intermittent CEL in certain weather conditions S60 2005

I'm posting on behalf of an acquaintence who drives an '05 S60 2.5T. She has a very short commute so the miles are low ~25K. She's taken her car to a nearby tire/auto shop and they don't want to work on it.

Symptoms:
Intermittent CEL during any of the following conditions:
1. ambient temp near +32F
2. High humidity/fog
3. Hard acceleration before motor completely warmed up

CEL clears itself. Driveability is normal except on high humidity days when it will stall when first engaging a gear. Upon restart and a little push on the throttle the car will run w/o stall.

This shop she's taken it to does not have VADIS, but they are suspecting MAF issue, and they want her to assume the risk if their guess is wrong.

Do these combination of symptoms sound like any obvious sensor failure? I've suggested she go to a properly equipped shop, but thought I'd check in here first.

thx

Without having a code reader handy when the CEL is on, this is going to be tough. It could be something as simple as a fouled plug or a cracked coil. Without the code you don't know.

No, I would not just throw parts at it. You don't need a VADIS code reader, a good generic reader will do just fine.

Tell her to get the rpms up once in a while, AFTER the engine reaches operating temperature. Just downshift to 2 or 3 while maintaining speed should help.
