Windscreen V70-XC70

My '00 V70 has a windscreen free of cracks, but after 360,000km it has a finish that is full of microscopic poc marks and it is bad going into the sun. Is there a product that will fill these pocks and restore the original polish?

I've heard you can polish some stuff out with cerium oxide glass polish (apparently Eastwood has a kit for this). Sometimes the cheapest fix is to buy a better windshield at a junkyard and have it installed at a glass place.

Good luck!

Hello, Polish anything to a point of improvement-YES. Go to the huge bother of finding a young windshield in a junkyard THEN do something glass professionals don't do; remove a windshield intact THEN transport it somewhere for installation. It ain't going to happen. The pit-free glass of a new windshield will actually comfort your eyes. It's amazing. Kira

Glass professionals at big chain shops might not, but independent shops do it around here quite a bit. I've watched somebody take a windshield out at a pick-and-pull with a flat dull scraper attachment on a cordless sawzall-- it took less than 2 minutes! He picked it up with two suction cups and was off on his way.

Hello, That 'remover' has THE touch; I'm impressed. How did you change the title of my post? Kira

Same title V70-XC70

Cutting out the old windscreen sounds labor intensive. Besides, most of the junk yard cars I have seen, I wouldn't want the windshield.

He didn't change the title to your post, you just responded to the 'duplicate' that Herb mistakenly put in.

You can 'edit' anything on 'your' post, including the title for the first 10-20 minutes. So that if you hit enter instead of tab, you can go back and edit what you just posted. Unless you are like me and hit enter several times and then have to go in and change multiple postings!

Check your car insurance policy. If you have glass coverage, they will normally replace it based on your complaint of heavy pitting. It is considered a safety issue. Even if in doubt, call and check.

Short answer: No. Most of the 'crazing' you see when driving into the sun is the plastic laminate cracking due to age. Nothing can fix your windshield except for replacement. There is no 'good' product on the market that I know of that can fill in stone pits without loss of vision.

The only answer is replacement. Call around, it is not as expensive as you might imagine, unless you get OEM. The manufacturer is Pinkerton (?) and is cheaper than glass that has Volvo written on it. The local glass companies are aware of all three 'brands' of windows: OEM, pinkerton, and generic. All three will do a good job.
