2001 V70 with a manual trans. V70-XC70

Near me is a 2001 V70 with a manual trans. I have read that they are not the year to get and that they have "issues". Are a lot of the issues with the automatics?
This one has 175K in decent shape had a lot done by PO, shocks, timing belt, some suspension work, brakes. the are asking 2,500 may be able to get for 2,000.
I am looking for amanual is a 2001 worth looking at or do I run like the plauge?
Chris

It seems that the biggest problem with the 2001's is the automatic tranny. Buying a manual in that year is probably a good idea! Another common problem is the ETM. You can check it for a yellow or white sticker to see it has been replaced. It's early and I can't remember which one indicates a newer ETM. I'm sure someone else will chirp in...

My Dad had a 2001 for about a year and half before he was rear-ended. I don't recall any real problems with the car. The ETM had been replaced but I felt like it needed replacing again since it had a slight hesitation. It is my belief that not all 2001's are bad cars. But do remember that you are taking a risk buying that model year. 2001 was the first year for that model and they can be prone to problems.
