timing belt 850

My early 94 5 speed has 190,000 on it and last time the timing belt was changed was in 2003 at 136,000 miles. I have been searching for the part to purchase and it seems like in 1994 Volvo changed parts midstream. Here some numbers from my vehicle:

VIN: YV1LS5505R2120112

The 3 numbers on the sticker in front of the engine are:

1289938

190590

B5254S

The letters in front of each are worn off so I'm not sure which each indicates. Does anyone know which belt I should purchase and should I go ahead and just get a kit since I have almost 200,000 on it. I purchased the cam locking tool from IPD today along with the DVD. I recently did the PCV on mine so I am slightly above average mechanic. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Maggie

Best to undo the 12-mm bolt that hold the Upper timing Cover and peek down there, then you will see that:
    - you have a hydraulic tensioner.
    - probably 23-mm wide TB.

    As people said, replace everything:
    - TB
    - WP (OEM is Aisin)
    - Hydraulic Tensioner (Aisin)
    - Pulleys x2

Believe it or not, Volvo parts are now cheaper than online vendors!

I use Superior Volvo from Kansas City, good service and prices:

      cn,

Curious here - when you say replace "Pulleys x2", are you referring to the cam sprockets? Assuming so, I don't see the need to remove them if the cam seals aren't leaking. Besides, if she pulls the sprockets loose from cams, then a relatively simple job suddenly becomes more complicated due to loss of timing orientation.

If you weren't talking about the cam sprockets, then please ignore me and I'll go back to sleep.

Forgot to mention that you should replace Cam Seals x2 too.

Beg to differ on cam seals. She just did the oil separator box and vacuum lines, so the crank pressure should be negative and not bother the cam seals.

Check them, yes. But not an automatic replace.

The bottom set of letters/numbers are the engine type.
The center number looks right for serial number.

FCP Groton says this for 1994: Only fits models after engine serial number 148582.
But for the 1994 early models: Only fits models thru Engine serial number 131154.

At the 200K mark, and you are close enough, you will probably need a new tensioner and water pump. Make sure you get an OEM water pump. The pump is a pain to replace, especially removing the old gasket material.

The vin ought to be the only thing that someone like FCP will need to find the correct part.
