Stutter XC90 2004

I am aware my XC90 has transmission issues and now it looks like it;s my turn. However I've gotten 3 opinions and they all are different. All are certified Volvo shops. First one says torque converted needs to be replaced $400 parts plus trans has to be dropped; second says can't do just torque converted because rest of trans so worn new torque converted will "overpower" old remaining trans and "blow" it out; third-Dealer-says needs new trans-I've had bad experience with dealer in past.

Oh, by the way, my symptoms are a slight shutter when pulling a hill-otherwise, runs great!

Anyone care to share experiences? Thoughts?

Flush your ATF first, in all cases. Not cheap even with Toyota 3309, but always a start.

I like the first dealer! But when was the last time you heard of the torque converter going bad. I'll bet it was a long time ago, and far,far away! Most dealers will opt for a rebuild, and they do not come reasonable.

Remember, dealers no longer 'fix' things, they only R&R parts. To find a dealer willing to repl the torque converter is rare. Usually that is left to a reputable tranny shop.
