key spinning lock cylinder? S70

What I read on posts if key spins then it is a lock cylinder. I have had the issue with the switch in that it had to be jiggled. But the spinning sounds like a cylinder.

They seem pricey. Can they be repaired by a locksmith? If not is this a dealer item only?

Can I get one at a junk yard? Realize I will have two keys.

Madness

Not only is it a dealer only part, it has to be ordered from the factory that makes the locks. For that you get a new lock, one new key which fits your current locks, and two break off screws that hold the lock to the steering column.

If you take off the plastic clam shell from the steering column, you can see the offending parts. Pull off the ignition switch on the left side and see if the spring still works - your starter should engage.

Rather than driling out the two screws that hold the lock in place, try a punch and hammer to turn the screw counter clockwise for removal. Once the screw turns, it will be easy to remove the lock.
