98 V70 Stalls, bad Throttle Position Sensor???? V70-XC70 1999

I have a 1998 V70 it does NOT have a ETM, but a TPS.

I've replaced the MAF sensor and no effect at all.

Would a failing or failed TPS cause the car to stall and/or stumble?

Also yesterday when I was trouble shooting stuff I had a new code show up in my OBDII and it was P0120 which is why I'm now asking this question.

Anyone out there have any thoughts or suggestions on this?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Is there a pick&pull around your area? You might have a fried ECU/ECM as most TPSs seldom fail.

Pull the ECU from the box and make sure all of the gold contacts are clean. Also make sure there is airflow through the box at all times.

      All,

Finally had to have it towed to my mechanic as on the way there it gave up the ghost and would not start again.

They found that the fuel pump relay went out and nothing else is bad.

Car is back now and running great! Returned un-used part so the bill wasn't as bad as it could have been.

I never checked the fuel pump relay, so my bad on this one. In my career I reverse engineer things and I'm really good at it, but trouble shooting has never been one of my strong suits. Guess I need to work at that.

Any ways, thanks for all the help.

      Matt

That's because YOU pointed us to the TPS. Normally, if the engine stalls repeatedly and then restarts after a few minutes without any codes, it is a fuel delivery problem.

I have seen many people give themselves expensive parts swapping home education courses.

You should consider taking your car to a dealer for repair.

Volvos compensate for many problems until something gets too bad to correct.

You could have a dirty air filter, a fuel filter problem, a problem in one of the many hoses on your engine, a problem with your ignition system, or many other issues - even a code may not help you.

But chances are that only one thing is bad - a good tech can find it.
