Mass Air Flow (MAF) Senor, Throttle Body, or Both bad and NOW GREMLINS!! V70-XC70 1998

Klaus, Help!

Received the new MAF from FCP today, plugged it in, and all seemed well as it started right up.

I took it out for a drive to Home Depot. Picked up what I needed and went to leave. Started the car and went to put it in gear and it died. ARGH and No CEL.

Had to unplug the MAF just to get it to start again so that I could get home.

While on the way home I made a hard stop and the dashboard trip computer area started displaying "disc" and flashing between that and the odometer.

What that heck man? What is going on?

I now know I need a ETM which sucks, which means I need to take it to a dealer to program, which sucks even more. What I don't know or understand is what is going on with my trip computer???? The ABS light didn't come on or anything like that so I have no idea why the trip computer is displaying "disc".

Any and all help on this would be a great help. I'll be calling my mechanic tomorrow to see what he can do.

Look forward to hear what you all think about this.

Later,

Matt

Is this a US model? Is it a 98? 98 us models do not have an ETM. The do have an IAC. If thge throttle body is on the end of the manifold near the transmission end, it is not an ETM. If it is UNDER the manifold near the middle of thge engine, you have the ETM and NO IAC valve.

Mass Air Flow (MAF) Senor, Throttle Body, or Both bad and NOW GREMLINS!! V70-XC70 1998

This is a US model and it is a 1998 model. It does have the IAC which I checked yesterday and it appears to be fine.

The resistance seems in range and it appears to run.

So I have a throttle body and not an ETM, so how do I repair this thing or is there nothing to repair?

Any help here is greatly appreciated.

      Thanks!

      Matt

    Update!

I've contacted XeModex and have there trouble shooting flow chart, however I do not believe it will help as my car is a 98 and there appears to be a huge difference between 98 and the later years so I might have to bite the bullet on this one as the car is currently down and I am swamped at work so its gonna take some time.

On another note, the car is now throwing the following code: P0120. Done a small search, but have no real clues yet as to what has happened here.

Any thoughts out there as to what I'm missing or direction I should be going in?

    Thanks in advance!

    Matt

Glad to hear the car is back on the road! Take a look at www.xemodex.com for an ETM fix, cheaper than any dealer and no programming.

As for the 'disc' message, the computer is having problems finding the data depending on your selection. Usually an electrical problem somewhere else.

      Klaus,

Thanks for the response and website. Will definitely give them a call.

Now I'm just asking here, but I've been doing a lot of reading here and I do believe that it is the ETM, but any chance it might have something to do with the Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve???

I'm going to check it today to make sure.

In case you're thinking it, I'm going to check all vacuum hoses again for any leaks. I've checked already, but I going to check again just to be doubly sure.

Any way, like to hear your and any others thoughts that they might have.

      Best regards,

      Matt
