weird noises and squeaking 850 1995

This is a weird issue, there is a noise when going over rough road, its sounds like something is very loose on the passenger side of the car. also, when going over those speed bumps, there is a squeak noise too.

This where it gets really crazy, if someone is in the passenger side of the car, these noises are non existant. I have pushed down on the front fender area to see if I can hear the squeak and there is none, also I have tried to move all exterior moulding by hand to see if that is loose, and its not.

This only happens when the car is moving

Have you tried wiggling the passenger seat around? Try spraying a little lubricant on the seat rails and move the seat all the way back and forth.

If you have a wagon, the latches that hold the rear seat up will eventually squeak as well. A little lubricant fixes this.

The other way to check front spring seat is to try turning the large bolt over the strut clockwise. Use a pair of channel lock pliers or some tool large enough. If the bolt turns easily and does not want to return to the original position, the rubber is compromised.

The problem then becomes two fold. Replacing the spring seat requires the strut to be removed and the spring to be removed also. The same procedure as in replacing the shock. So, if your shocks need replacing, now is the time to replace them.

Always replace the spring seat with the XC90 version as it is more robust and will last longer:

    About $32/each at Tasca Volvo.

Check your upper strut (front) and upper shock (rear) mounts.
They are made of rubber and will break over time.

Very easy to check the fronts - open the hood and look at the top of the strut while pushing the car up and down. Everything should move in unison.

For the rears, you will have to remove the trunk liner (sedan) or side panels to view the top mounts. Perform the same test while observing the upper mounts.

It will be very obvious if one is broken. The body will move up and down while the strut or shock will stay still.
