Noise when torque converter locks/unlocks V70-XC70 1998

I posted this message on the XC site a few days ago and did not get much response, so perhaps there are some viewers on the V70 site that can help.

I took delivery of a '98 XC just two weeks ago, already have 2,000 miles on it. There seems to be a noise, like a gear slippage, when the torgue coverter locks and unlocks and it happens every time. There are no other problems with shifting. Any ideas??

I did have a suggestion to change the trans fluid and I am running down TSB 4430029 which addresses the fluid change issue.

BTW, I e-mailed the dealer and they don't seem to think the problem is serious, but it sure is annoying. They promised to look at it at the next service. (But we anal people must search for a solution.) I have had a great experience with the dealer so far - Paul's Motors, Hawthorne, NJ - The purchase experience was great thanks to Chris Corrigan, in sales, and on the second day of ownership the ABS module went out, they took me right away, replaced the module, found the rear washer motor was also bad and replaced that, gave me a spare headlight bulb, just in case - all with a smile - go there!

I had a 98 that started "clunking in and out of 4th. The problem was that the tranny was OVERFILLED with fluid fron the factory. when a service was performed and the correct level was installed the car was fine.tell your dealed to look at that

    Ray,

Many moons ago, when my 98 V70 AWD was new, it did the same thing. I had the tramsmission flushed, and the problem went away. Now, I have the fluid changed avery 10,000 miles, and the problem has never returned.

Mike Harris in Sandy Eggo, 60,000 miles and still flawless.
