Steel rims for winter. V70-XC70 2003

Wondering if we have to buy Volvo steel rims for winter tires on wife`s 03 XC70? Anything else fit? I know on at least some of the 240`s Ford rims would fit.
First skiff of snow here this am so would like to get the snows on soon.
Thanks,
Rich

I must apologize for the mis-information.

The Volvo listing for 215/65R16 is for 2008 - 2013 models.

Steel rims for winter. V70-XC70 2003

I got a handout from my dealer for winter tire packages for this winter.

The only steel wheels listed are for XC 70s, S40/V50, and S60. - $299, $349, and $349 respectively.

What WAS interesting was the prices for alloy wheels and tire combos for XC60, XC90, and S40, V50 were listed as $549 each

This means that alloy wheels were only about $200 more than steel wheels.

Volvo uses 215/65R16 for their package.

I may try to see if they can make a deal for alloys and snow tires for my XC70.

A few years ago, I purchased steel wheels and tires from my tire store - a family owned business that I have been dealing with since 1963 when they retreaded my SAAB tires!

They found me a set for $600 total - they did have to search quite a bit to find wheels that had the proper load rating. Interestingly enough, the wheels were made in Germany and had full welds between the center and the rim, whereas the Volvo steel wheels had partial welds.

Thanks for the info. The indie shop we`ve been using in Montana(great shop!!) is looking for a used set of alloy rims for us tho` no luck thus far.
We are running General Tire Arctic-Max(?) which we bought 2 winters ago. They`re made in Germany & basically, an older Gislaved tread design. I think the Nokian Hakkaa`s & the Gislaveds were a better tire for our winter driving conditions but due to financial constraints we went with the Artic Max. Not bad & definitely better than all seasons.

From the 2003 owner's manual:

Volvo recommends 195/65 R15 snow tires on non-turbo models. Turbo models should be equipped with 205/55 R16 snow tires on all four wheels (215/65 R16 tires should be used on the XC70).

Do you already have a set of snow tires? I found these in Vancouver

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/nvn/pts/3311663498.html

and do not know what he means by 'will not fit XC70s'. Perhaps a phone call is in order? The 205/55 are much too small in diameter compared to what is stock for your car.

I would just buy a set of snow tires and have them mounted on the existing rims, in November.

Thanks Klaus...yes, we already have snows for the XC. My thought was to get another set of rims so we don`t keep paying for tire changeover season after season. I did have a set of Nokian snows/rims from my 850 wagon but of course, they didn`t fit the XC. Too bad cuz they had a 1/2 winter season on them.
