it also will kick off on a long uphill climb.

Like my 1998 cruise problems which I never did get fixed. I sprayed the throttle linkage with lithium grease which helped a little. The rusty throttle cable should have been replaced, my daughter complained about a hard pedal after driving a different car.

If you go to a pick&pull for something else, get a 'new' vacuum pump which is attached to the bottom of the battery tray.

      ah, yes...

i looked for the vacuum motor under there. it has gotten ugly below the battery area. i will have to look for a replacement. the cruise still works sometimes but the response is slow like molasses in January and often kicks of if it has to push the pedal much up a grade/low hill...

      thanks again.

They are known for vacuum hose leaks between the pump under the battery and thge actuator at the gas pedal. Usuall;y right bvehind the battery the hose chafes and leaks slightly. Double check that hose. Once disconected from the pump myou should be able to apply vacuum to it and get thje throttle spindle to move nearly to full throttle. Also check the adjustment at the brake/clutch vacuum valves under the dash.
