Akebono Pads

My recent post about "best" brake pads concluded OEM were preferable to most Volvo owners.
My wife stopped by the dealer yesterday to pick up a set for the front but called to say they were $140. I decided to pass on them & just now looked at pads available at IPD. Akebono pads are $66. I`m not familiar with them at all.
Good pads? advantages/disadvantages?
Thanks,
Rich

Akebono Pads

I bought Mintex for the rear of the '01 S40 and they were inexpensive and fine. No brake dust.

I decided to purchase the same for the front of the '95 854T and did so about a year ago. Never again!. It's unbelievable how much dust those pads produce. Braking seems fine, but, oh the dust.

I suspect the difference is the weight and location of the pads I bought - ie. the front of the heavy 854T vs. the rear of the lighter S40. Next time, I'll go back to PBR / Axxis or whatever. Not likely to purchase factory pads due to the expense.

Sorry, but I guess this really doesn't answer your initial question.

FWIW - Both OEM and Akebono (850 and V70 thru 2000) front pads are $52.98 at FCP Groton.

Rick, I don't remember your year, but I know you have a V70. Akebono for 2001-2007 V70's are $50.72, no listing for OEM except for the 2004-07 V70 R's which are $127.37 - ouch!

Akebono Pads

They fit just fine, very good replacement for the front wheels, slightly less dust, and same braking distances.
