Wheel a little loose V70-XC70

'98 V70R
Hi all, I posted the other day that I failed my safety test because they stated a loose tie rod. I jacked the front up and sure enough, I can rock the passenger side wheel back and forth a little bit while the driver's side is solid and doesn't move.

So I'd like to buy the loose part and replace myself. My question is, what are the culprits for this symptom? Is it the inner or outer tie rod or could it be either? And if so, how can I tell? Should I just jack it up and remove both and see and then order the right part (my plan for this weekend)? I have another car to drive, so having this one out of commission for a week is no big deal.

However, if it is usually only one option, then I'd rather just order the part and remove and replace all at once.

Thanks in advance,

Wes

Have an assistant wiggle the wheel back and forth while you watch the tie rod and grasp the various connecting points. You should be able to feel where the slop is.
