Service Light 850

So the Service light came on my dash a day or two ago. I understand that it's telling me to change the oil (though it's still quite clean), but my question is this: if I go to one of those quick oil change places, they aren't going to know how to turn the Service light off, will they?

The only thing that the light is telling you is that it has been 5000 miles since the indicator was reset.

Many times, even a dealer tech forgets to reset the light.

It is quite annoying when the light comes on a few miles after an oil change!

93-95 850's have two reset procedures. One is as Klaus suggested. Some base cars are not reset with the diagnostic socket. These have a small rubber plug in the front of the speedo near the trip reset buton. Remove plug and push the button behind it with a pocket screwdriver or similar.

1996-1998 850/70 require a scan tool to turn off the service light. Very few hand held scan tools will do that.

I have yet to see a quick oil change place have the tools to that.

Thanks for the always dependable Klaus response. Mine's a '95--would that make the difference?

        A 1993-5 is resetable from the 'A - 7' slot. Enter Mode 4 (1111), then 1-5-1. Four bottles of 151 rum!

          I'll research it. Thanks!

I have an 1995 too, what I did is took the bulb out when replacing my other instrument lights, no more resetting service light. If you keep maintenance up, no need for the service light reminder, or you can reset it like Klaus stated

I have not had that service light reminder for probably 10 years now

They might. The procedure to reset the switch on 850s is pretty straightforward. I don't recall it specifically (I don't own an 850), but someone else will probably chime in with it shortly.

You could also google search it. I've seen it posted on several different forums.
