CD changer error code 850 1995

My OEM changer just crapped out. The head unit displays "E-01" when I try to play a CD. Also, the changer doesn't seem to be powering up (the eject button is not functional, doesn't even light up when pressed). The in-line fuse is OK, all radio-related fuses up front are OK, DIN and power cables are properly connected. Any ideas, particularly related to the meaning of the error code, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Micah

Re: CD changer error code 850 1995

Easy fix...

Take a credit card or something similiar and insert it into the bottom of the CD magazine.

(In more detail) In the front of the CD changer where the magazine is, insert a thin plastic device (about 3" in diameter, 7" long, .020" thick) into the gap between the BOTTOM of the magazine and the carrage assembly. Insert the device towards the center of the magazine and press foward. The magazine will then eject. (To be done with stereo off.)

This will actuate the ejector manually.

Once done, remove all CDs from magazine. Odds are there was one missing, don't worry as this will get it back without damage. Insert the empty magazine into the changer and allow it a few moments to cycle. Once the motion and noise had stopped, eject the magazine with the button and remove stray CD if present.

Re-load CDs into magazine and use as normal.

Hope this helps,

Prospero

Re: CD changer error code 850 1995

Sorry about all the responses. I fiddled some more, using your earlier directions, and on the 2nd/3rd try, the changer gave me back the CD it had stolen; all is well. Thanks again for your help.

Re: CD changer error code 850 1995

Glad to hear that it worked out for you. Mine will still do the E-02 every now and again. The magazine just ejects itself for some strange reason. I am in the process of figuring this one out too. It may be time for a new one. :>(

Re: CD changer error code 850 1995

Thanks. I got the CD's out OK, and the mechanism ejects fine now. The new problem is error code "E-02." The changer accepts and ejects the cartridge, but the CD player isn't cycling upon loading the cartridge and isn't playing. I don't know if this relates, but the cartridge ejects with much more "vigor" than before, almost shooting it completely out of the player. Thanks again for your help.

Micah

P.S. Incidentally, this whole thing started when I went to load CD's and discovered the eject mechanism had actuated while the sliding cover was CLOSED. I had to slightly force the cartridge inward to get the door open; then I loaded the cartridge and got "E-01."
