Is there a set screw or something to adjust the tension on the rear view mirror?

No set screw on the mirror. You need to be carefull about used parts. The mirror is also a computer. It is called the "upper electronic module" It controls interior lighting and acts as the receiver for the remote key fobs. A used one may work but you need to make sure it's from the same year wioth the same equipment. May have to visit a deal,er for software.

I have never seen a set screw on any model Volvo. My V70 was so tight it was hard to move. Perhaps a junkyard version?

The old RWD's (140/240) had a tiny screw in the back - or would that be the front - or how about the side that that the police lights don't show up in, that you could use to adjust the grip on the swivel ball. One more useful thing gone to the wayside in the "new and improved" models.
