Tranny limping in S80 S80 2004

My friend's 2004 S80 has 150k miles, lately the car hasbeen slipping intermittantly during low speed acceleration. Recently, coming out of a car wash, the tranny just quit - began slipping and wouldn't get over 5 mph. A nearby mechanic recommends replacing entire trans.

Are these transmissions serviceable?
Ideas on cause/effect of car wash and tranny failure?
Any recommendations on good Volvo FWD trans sources?
How many service hours required for removal and replacement?

Thanks,
Greg

The pump inside the tranny is not serviceable. Please check the fluid level and color.

It takes a good 8 hours to R&R the tranny, most shops drop the engine for ease of work.
