Hello again lads.

I've had a slightly rough idle after a cold start for the last couple weeks. It almost stalled out a couple times (1993 850), with the AC on.

The engine seems to run normally after it warms up.

Thought I smelled gas briefly today.

Any ideas on what to inspect? Thanks!

Aside from checking the vacuum lines as suggested;
I'd clean the air filter, Idle Air Control Valve (IAC), MAF sensor and the Throttle Body.
I'm leaning toward a dirty IAC is your issue.

About a month ago, I cleaned the throttle body, IAC, and repaired a vacuum line. The engine actually ran a little better for a while.

How do I go about cleaning the MAF sensor? Don't know much that.

I have to run an errand, so maybe there's something additional I can assess on this cold start.

Stalling out with gas smell. Running rich, could you have leaky injectors?

Vacuum leak always is a good thing to check/rule out. Does it show up at any other point besides start-up? How long does it last?

O2 sensors don't start right away, they have to warm up. Until then the computer assumes fuel is right.

Is cold start first 10 seconds, right about 2 minutes in, or from the time you start until it becomes warm?

Still, first thing to check is vacuum lines.

I just started the engine for the first time today. The rough idle wasn't there. So it seems at cold start, the engine bogs down when the tranny is in gear.

I don't know if this is important or not, buts there's a fairly noticeable "tapping" I can feel on the panel guarding the fuel injectors.

Is this normal?

I'm going to inspect the vacuum lines again. Maybe I missed something. Also, I've got a bottle of fuel injector treatment, so I'll see how that goes.

I would say the rough idle ends in the first 2 minutes, but that's just about how long the engine takes to warm up anyhow.
