Update on Rough Idle V70-XC70 2003

Just started wife`s XC70... It`s definitely running roughly. The CEL is flashing for 15 seconds or so on startup & then, goes off. I revved it up a little & it hesitates before getting the RPM`s up. Sounds kinda` serious, hope not!

Update on Rough Idle V70-XC70 2003

Flashing CEL is because of multiple misfires. It could be a coil pack or water in the gasoline. That happened to my 220 last week after I tanked up. It wouldn't idle after starting it the next morning and I had to get to a previous appointment. After 45 minutes, I could finally push the choke all the way in.

Update on Rough Idle V70-XC70 2003

Thanks, Klaus. Any chance this could be an O2 sensor issue? The other thing I forgot to mention is that the gas mileage has dropped dramatically in the past few months. I don`t get to drive the car all that often so things slide by.
Wish this had happened while we were in Montana last week so we could have taken it to our indie shop. Looks like it might have to go to the dealership in Calgary & that means "Get your wallet out!!"
      Thanks again

An O2 sensor failure will light up the CEL. It could be bad plugs, or, a cracked vacuum line causing rich running when cold.

Because the light goes out when slightly warm, it will be hard to diagnose. Heck, it could be a dirty throttle body.

Update on Rough Idle V70-XC70 2003

Just talked to my indie shop in Montana & john told me that it`s almost certainly bad plugs/coil pack. Wish we were in Mt to take it to his shop where I know any work would be done properly. Will have to settle for the local garage here in town.

Update on Rough Idle V70-XC70 2003

Thanks, Klaus. My wife had another thought after you mentioned getting some bad gas in your 122. The previous day she had filled the tank at a new gas station in town & maybe got some contaminated gas. Years ago we had a similar problem on our 850 which turned out to be bad gas.
Anyway, we are going to fill up at our our regular staion & see what happens. That seems to be the cheapest place to start. As I mentioned, the XC70 has been running really well up until a few days ago so it was very sudden. We drove to New Mexico in June & just toured Montana last week with no sign of problems.
          Will keep you posted!.......thanks!
