2000 Xc transmission leak V70-XC70

So the wife's XC leaked most of it transmission fluid and ran dry (almost) to the point where car wont move..if i add fluid i still managed to move it to the driveway. car now makes an awfull scrapping noise (trans pump running dry?)
in any effect i want to fix this..
what are my options?

Remove the tranny and..

Rebuild this one w a new pump?
i guess this is the harder route, where would one get the rebuild kits for these? is there even such a thing?

install a used FWD only unit..this XC has been fwd only for some time..

There are no kits for the AW tranny. You didn't mention where the leak is. Running it dry probably ruined the pump which is now noisy, and the bands.

I would just replace the tranny with a FWD. Before you install the 'new' one, clean the solenoids if you can.

When you are done, remove the AWD stickers on the rear of the car.
