EGR Test 1989

Hello and thank you for putting your experience on this.

I've pulled my EGR and am trying to determine if I need to replace it.
I can suck air through the small nipple with no problem.
If I depress the piston (using a screwdriver up the threaded pipe) and suck through the nipple - there is no change.

I'm assuming this Fails the EGR.
Is this a sufficient test?

I failed CA smog for extremely high NOX and extremely low CO

Thanks!
Nick

If air passes through the small nipplle, the diaphram is broken and the valve is toast. With a properly functioning valve, vacuum at the small nipple should cause the piston to move.
