I have recently purchased a Volvo V70 2.4 20V, year 2000. There are a few minor problems that can be dealt with but the major issue is the boot door will not open, in this model the boot can only be opened via the key remote I am finding it difficult to approach this problem, help will be much appreciated.

There is a provision for a key lock in the boot. Just to the right of the license plate is a black flap that can be lifted and reveals a key slot.

Yes, the remote has a button for the hatch, but just to unlock it. The hatch is not motorized. If the hatch remains locked when the 4 doors are unlocked, there could be a wiring problem in the harness that goes next to the upper hinge.

To open the locked rear hatch, climb into the rear of the car and pull up on the lock button. Then open the hatch from the handle on the inside.
