'01 V70T5 - shift delay and cabin noise V70-XC70 2001

Hi,

I am a new Volvo owner and I thought I'd throw this out to the board before visiting my dealer.

I bought 2001 T5 with the geartronic transmission and 5400 miles about a month ago. Over this time, I've noticed that when I make frequent speed changes such as rolling stops, the tranny doesn't seem downshift quick enough. This results in a delay before the tranny catches when I step on the accelerator again. Is this normal or can this be adjusted? It doesn't happen when it's in the manual shift mode.

Also, the plastic covering on the pillars between the front and rear doors makes an irritating squeak when driving on rough roads. If I press on the plastic it stops. Anyone know of a more elegant solution?

Eric Schmitt

Hello Eric,

What often helps to kill the squeak is a little silicone spray between the two plastic surfaces.

Good luck,

S60, June 2001 (hopefully).

Hi Eric -

I can tell you that you are not alone in your well-described transmission performance issue. I've been working on a fix for that for some time now. I'm told that in week 9 there will be an FID 616 to address this problem.

Darell,

Thanks for the affirmation. Unfortunately, I don't understand what you mean when you say that "...in week 9 there will be an FID 616..."

Sorry about that -

In Swedish auto building terms, week one begins Jan 1 of any given year, so week nine is the last week of February this year.

FID 616 is a piece of software that is designed to improve the shift pattern on the '01 V70. As far as I know, this will be the third version of FID 616 since last October.

I've sent email to your yahoo account.

- Darell
