Failed brake job V70-XC70 1998

An embarrassing tale. Did brake job on sons car. Replaced everything- calipers, rotors, pads, and I think there was some hardware. That was Xmas time. He went back to school in Michigan where he drove the car once a week short distances for the next 3-4 months. Got home in June saying brakes don't work well. Indeed really poor ware pattern on rotors, little contact. Took apart to find everything really rusted. Same thing on suburban I recently did. I painted contact surfaces on suburban calipers for prevention this time. Its not driven but every 3-4 weeks sometimes. So did I do an incomplete job on v70. Did just sitting in Mich salt and moisture cause lock up? What can one do to prevent this?

All things to check I appreciate the suggestions. The rust I guess is really on the bracket. Looking at the pads in the bracket tonite they do not move/slide well, bind instead of moving easily. I did grease up everything that slides. I'll check the piston for binding. Boots look OK. Then bleed better too. Thought I had air out.

Thank you gentlemen.

The rotors will naturally rust, but the pads will clean off the rust the first time the brakes are applied.

But the wear pattern MUST be EVEN. Not even means that the spring clip is on wrong or the pads were not seated properly.

Did you use brake grease on the piston and slides? Nothing on the calipers or piston should ever rust.

If you bleed the fluid improperly, you might wind up with air in the system.

Hello, If "everything" was rusted up in 4 months it would seem you didn't grease the right stuff at all. Did you apply brake grease to the glide pins? Were the pins' dust boots and caps intact? Did you push the piston into the caliper squarely? Could you have torn the pistons' boots when opening them? What exactly did you "paint" anyway? Did you bleed the brakes after R&Ring the calipers? Did the brakes feel OK when you completed job in December? Kira
