Heater blower dead S70 1999

My son left me his car during his vacations. It is a V70 1999. The heater blower quit on me. I cannot say when it happened because I was on the highway.

I checked the fuse and it is good. There might be a relay to check also but I dont know where it could be. My speciality is the 240.

Is there an archive where I should be looking ?

Thank you

Get a folding torx set if you already do not have one,, great tool to leave in the glove box anyway.

To get to the blower and rehostat, you will need to pull out the glovebox before you remove the 3 screws holding the kick panel. Fortunately, the blower motor is easy to take out. Follow the blower wires, they connect to the rehostat about half way to the center console. The rehostat is held inplace with one torx screw, and it has a very heavy heatsink.

Depending on the type of system you have, ECC or MCC, the rehostat is different. The ECC has a variable speed and the MCC has numbered speeds.

If the blower was not making any noise before it stopped working, it could be the rehostat which varies the speed of the blower. Usually, it works on the high speed and not the lower speeds.

The blower is quite easy to remove. Beware that the aftermarket blowers are noisier than OEM.

You might also want to check the cabin filter. It is located in front of the firewall and accessed by removing 2-3 torx screws from the plastic panel under the windshield, then lifting up a little to access the filter. A clogged filter will put stress on the blower. The filter should be replaced annually, especially if the car is parked outdoors.
