Engine Diagnostic Test 850

I have been having issues with my intake manifold being flooded with fuel. I have a 1994 n/a 5 speed. Is anyone familiar with the test for port 2? I put the plug into port 2 and instead of pushing once to get codes you push it 3 times and the engine runs through a variety of tests (fuel injectors, fan, etc.). When I run mine I get no response from the fuel injectors. Any thoughts or suggestions? Also, is there a way to test the fuel ECU? I'm running out of ideas. I already changed out the fuel pressure regulator and when I pull the vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator and the return fuel line absolutely nothing comes out of either. Any help would be appreciated.

    You should never get fuel from the regulator vacuum line, if you do then the regulator is broken.

    The FI relay is on the fan shroud, next to the fan relay. I believe they are the same... If so, swap the relays and test the system.

    Have you pulled the injector rail as a single unit? You could do that, then put the nozzles in small dixie cups or wrap sandwich bags around each one, turn on the ignition and see which one pours out fuel - assuming one of them leaks.

      Klaus,

      Thanks for the response. I have pulled the entire rail and put small mason jars underneath. When I turn the key to the II position they give an initial 5 second prime. I also crank it and the engine will run for a minute or so from the fuel already in the cylinders. Afterwards, they all have relatively the same amount of fuel in the jars. None seem to be significantly more than the other. Also, I have put a jar under the return fuel line that runs from the fuel pressure regulator and nothing comes out of that. Shouldn't the fuel pressure regulator be sending that excess fuel back to the tank? I don't have fuel coming out of the vacuum line so I know the diaphragm hasn't ruptured, but is there a way to test the other output? How hot should the fuel injectors get? After the car ran for about 2 minutes I waited about another 30 to pull the fuel rail and the injectors were so hot I couldn't hold them with my bare hands. Maybe a short somewhere? Last Idea:::::: Could I pull 1 injector at a time and start the car to see if I still get flooding? Would this do any damage to a cylinder? Again, thanks for all your help.

        I have never heat tested an injector!!! Rather than take one out, just unplug it. A removed injector would introduce too much air into the manifold and you will rev to red line.

        A 5 second spray on a cold start?

        And you are correct, the FPR should be letting the excess fuel return to the tank. Did you check the pressure at the rail with the engine running?

          Klaus,

          When I pull the rail and put mason jars to catch the fuel I get about 5 seconds of priming when the key is turned to position II. Is this incorrect? Also, I understand there is not a way to test the injectors for heat. I was just concerned that they were too hold to hold after shutting down for 30 minutes. Are they supposed to get that hot? Tonight I'll check the OHM for each. Read a few things on VADIS last night. Maybe a short. I'll try and pick up a fuel pressure guage as well to check that.
