Anyone have Eastern Aerospace Turbo Ductwork mod? S70 98

Does anyone have the Eastern Aerospace "Turbo Ductwork

Assembly Upgrade Kit". Their web page, http://www.easternaerospace.com/automotive/engine/,

indicates it is a new product for them. I'm wondering

how well it works.

I understand the shorter ductwork illustrated at the web

site is the original design for the turbo engine but was

revised to reduce problems with icing on the intake.

(That would not be a problem for me where I live.)

They claim 20HP gain (estimated) but I don't

see how it would add horsepower. I can see how it would

reduce turbo lag (less plumbing to bring up to pressure)

and that might be worth the entry cost. It ertainly seems

like a better way to run the intake.

So, does anyone have this mod?

Thanks

    Ray,

judging by the way they present their products, I would suspect a very high % of BS in their claims. HP gains sound absolutely unrealistic except the ECU upgrade for turbos, but then again - they have the same part N for 1998,1999 and 2000 S/V/C 70 - which can't be trusted since the ECU was changed between 1998 and 1999 on those models.

Id like to be pleasantly disappointed, though.

    V.

The problem IMO with Eastern Aerospace is the "xx est." increase in hp claimed on all their "performance" items. No published back to back dyno testing to substantiate any of it. That (and the dragstrip) is the only way to truly quantify power increases. A decent chassis dyno is very revealing...

However, if they allow you to return the goods if dyno testing doesn't show an improvemnet of say, even 75% of their indication, then you're pretty safe to try. If I were cynical, one might gain slight improvement in power to weight ratio though a lightened wallet...

Read the iceing post further down. BTW it is just the orginal kit. Try a bone yad if yu want it still. If I were going to upgrade I would look for a kit with bigger OD and a bigger intercooler.

I find some of those mods questionable but the one you're mentioning looks to me like the exact hoses that '94 turbos came with before the campaign (or recall?) where we removed those and installed the newer type (plus a few other items) you now have.

It made NO difference in HP or lag whatsoever as that theory is flawed really. The slight difference in volume of compressed air inside those hoses is not enough to make any practical difference.

With those old style hoses like they're trying to sell you, they were known to cause throttle body icing, the throttle could freeze opened at extremely cold temps and that's why Volvo spent ALOT of money per car to change that at the dealers in the mid 90's ('94-'95).

We also returned those hoses to Volvo so that's what it looks like they're now trying to sell you again, old returned warranty parts that were probably scrapped.

Another device I'd question is the larger throttle body as the volume of air entering it is already pre-determined physically by the diameter of the turbo, intercooler, intercooler plumbing, etc and I can't see how that could possibly add 25HP to a turbo engine. I wouldn't buy their polished parts either.

I am getting a high stall (2600rpm) torque convertor from another place for my 745T however as that should cure initial take off lag. That'd be a costly item installed in a FWD however, it's easily installed in a RWD in comparison.
