trying to buy an ETM from Xemodex for 2000 S70 S70

In the process of placing an order for an ETM through Xemodex. They told me that they would need the ETM software version#'s that is installed in my car. They said that it would be 2 sets of numbers each 10 digits with 1 or 2 letters at the end. I called the dealer to see if I could have that done and they said that they could only tell me if there is a new version available not the version numbers. Getting frustrated because Xemodex stated on there website that they only needed my VIN number to download the software.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

Mike

I hope you check the plug at the ETM first! a loose plug will give you the same problems you are experiencing. Using a probe, you could lightly bend the female side of the plug to make the connection marginally tighter.

I sent Xemodex a question about the software numbers. Here is the complete reply:

    Hello Klaus,

Indeed based on his VIN there could be two versions of software loaded to his ETM.

I assume the dealer did the ETM sweep test in order to determine a faulty throttle all the customer needs to do is ask for a print out. The S/W Number is located on the upper right corner of the printout. Since he paid for diagnosis this information should be provided to him. That's how he can get around the problem.

Other option is for him to sent us his unit for us to extract the software, all the work is done in the same day.

    Hope this helps,

Ps. Keep up the good work! I find you extremely knowledgeable and dedicated to the cause.

Also, don't know if you know we have new DIM exchange program. Customer can order a preloaded DIM with S/W and mileage, true plug and play.

    Take care!

Klaus, you are correct, the dealer was not going to give me those numbers whether I paid them or not. The Xemodex website site only stated that it was incumbent on the buyer to have the codes read, and verify ETM failure existed. This part of the transaction became futial and disappointing. I did however, contacted a local independent shop and told him up front that I would pay him to read the software codes. We discussed my situation, and he made me an offer that I couldn't refuse. This morning he installed a new ETM in my car that cost only a bit more (much less than the dealer price), but without the hassle. With all that's been publish regarding the MM ETM failures over the last decade, I find it hard to believe that they hadnt made any improvements to this unit. Crossing my fingers that I get another 120,000 miles or more, from this yellow label. Thanks for your help, I am sure that Xemodex makes a quality product if you endorse it, regardless my S70 runs like a champ and that's all that matters.

      Thanks,

      Mike

That's a new one for me, I was also under the impression that all you needed was the VIN. The yellow stickered box has been pretty reliable, but some have had problems with the plug getting loose.

As to getting the software numbers from the dealer, well ..... probably like finding teeth on a chicken.
