I was driving down the highway when all of a sudden my "brake" warning light lit up. Does anyone know what this means? My manual is in my glove compartment which will not open! I tried the key..and still can not get into the glove compartment to look up what this brake light means. My brake lights work and my brakes work too. I am afraid that I am going to be driving down the road and will lose my brakes. Please help me solve my problem. :) Erin

Just a simple top off of the fluid should do it. Unfortunately, opening the broken glovebox is a little trickier. Apparently, the latch mechanism breaks and from what I've read, the best way to get in is to carefully pry the door open and cut the wire catch with a hacksaw. Once open, you would need to replace the mechanism and catch.

The red BRAKE warning light indicates low brake fluid. As your brake pads wear, the fluid level drops. Time to inspect the brakes. Most likely you will need front brake pad replacement.
