Oil spray from exhaust? S70

There is a stain behind my parking space that clearly indicates that I have a fine mist of oil spraying out of my exhaust. My 1999 S70 T5 has 205,000 miles and seems to run fine. I have not noticed any smoke coming from the exhaust. What could cause this issue? Bad Turbocharger?

Oil vapors condensing in the muffler can come from the turbo or valve guide seals, among other places. The Mitsubishi turbos and not known for blowing up like the 700/900 turbos, but are notorious for wearing out the rubber seals which allows oil to enter the air intake.

My 1967 does the same thing without a turbo! With 300K, I suspect the valve seals are the problem and I will do absolutely nothing about that.

How would you expect the situation to progress if it is the rubber seals in the turbo going bad? Should I just let this issue ride for a while to see how things progress? I'm checking the oil fairly regularly and haven't notice any significant decrease in the oil level. Thanks for you response.

If you find yourself idling a lot or taking short cold engine trips, it will continue to bubble oil out of the exhaust. I expect you are probably 1 quart down between oil changes, which isn't bad. To keep the oil off the driveway, don't gun the engine while it is cold and still in the driveway.

The turbos can be rebuilt, kits are $150-200, labor is extra if you don't DIY. Valve stem seals are going to cost around $800-1500.
