How reliable are the XC70s? V70-XC70

We have a 1999 V70, normally aspirated, and it has been a fine car. It's starting to rack up the miles and I was looking for something similar, I have found a 2008 XC70 with low miles that looks interesting, but how reliable is the AWD and the car in general? I would certainly get my mechanic to inspect the car before purchasing, but is there anything I should be wary of or look for? Are the 2008 v70s more reliable or less?

I just haven't looked at new cars in quite some time. Other than the ETM issue, our 1999 v70 has been very reliable (and well-maintained) and even the ETM issue was covered by Volvo.

We also have a 2000 S40 which, although it seems to have more issues than the v70, has been relatively reliable too.

Thanks.

How reliable are the XC70s? V70-XC70

Hi,
our 850-94 NA is still in use: one leaking steering rack, one bearing housing,
one cps, two front lower ball joints and some breaks in 18 years.
the V70D5AWD-06 has once oil in coolant, two parking sensors, one bearing housing (not SKF but GZ China?) so far. still the best/enjoyable winter car ever.

There is a 5 year maintenance program on the newer cars, check to see if it is transferable to a new owner. As with any used car, maintenance history is key.

The Haldex AWD was intorduced in 2003 and is quite good. I believe there is an oil and filter change for the unit at some specified mileage.

Yes, the 2008 XC70 appears to be a good car, better than 1999 fwd.

Thanks Klaus. That is encouraging. We've enjoyed the two Volvos we have and hopefully we can find a low mileage, relatively new v70 or xc70.
