Error 300 - multiple cyl misfire V70-XC70

So my 99 V70R has been hard starting for a while... it will crank over fine and then sort of "sputter" to life... then runs GREAT.... until today. While going down the freeway it starts missing, big time. Like its out of gas (lots of fuel in the tank, always has been)... throws a 300 error code.

any ideas? I know its a REAL general code.

Is there a way to test the pressure in the fuel rail to see if thats ok? Dont know if that would throw a different code or not.

I'm kind of down to general stuff? Check the plugs, do a compression test.. that sort of thing.

For a one time shot, get a cheap tire pressure gauge and with the engine sputtering, check the pressure at the end of the fuel rail, closest to the driver. There is a schrader valve there after you unscrew the cap.

Listen for the fuel pump when you put the key in position II, before you engage the starter. The pump is not in a friendly place, behind and under the right rear passenger seat. Lift the seat bottom to hear it better.

With a P0300, there should also be cylinder specific codes - P030x - if the problem is related to two or more coils that have gone bad. In that case swap the coils around with good ones and see if the error follows the bad coils.

Danke mucho for the advise. No cyl specific codes, just the 300.
