S70 GLT wont accelerate occasionally S70 2000

2000 S70 GLT SE, automatic. 122K. Timing/waterpump/serpentine replaced @ 105K. New radiator a few month ago.

Daily, the car goes into a mode where it wont rev above 3K, and doesnt accelerate. I end up driving about 20mph. Shifting doesnt change anything, putting it in neutral and it still wont rev over 3K. No Check Engine or any other lights. Put on the scanner, and no codes pending. I changed out the MAF as a wild guess, and no improvement, still happens.

Now, ironically, if I pull into a parking lot and drive around slowly making turns, it eventually kicks back to life, and I drive event free for the next half of the ride.

Ideas?

Jut a thought. Someone else posted about a bad turbo...

You had your radiator replaced. Check all of the intercooler hoses and make sure they are tight! Just grab a hose and try to twist it, if it moves, tighten up the clamp. If the turbo cannot get good boost, the engine will not be getting the air expected and you will have no rpms!! So from the air cleaner to the intercooler to the throttle body. Just put on a latex glove(love those things) and start twisting the lines.

My guess is the electronic throttle module is not reading the throttle position switch, or the ETM is dirty and doesn't work well when cold.

It could also be from a very dirty throttle body, limiting the amount of air being sucked in until the greasy stuff warms up and allows the butterfly to open fully.

Because you have no codes, you do not know if it is the ETM or the pedal position switch inside of the car.

You could stop by a dealer, but they would need to see the car while it is acting up which would mean leaving it over night and giving their fund at least $150.

If you can determine if it is the ETM, look at www.xemodex.com for repair rather than a dealer replacement.

      Thanks.

The car runs fine when cold, it's only after about 15 mins of driving that it acts up, then i pull over into a lot and wait for it to kick back to life.

I want to get rid of this car ASAP, and giving them $150 to tell me I need to spend $1000 is discouraging at best.

Any "free" ideas I can check, or other things to try while it's acting up?

Get a can of TB cleaner and spray the heck out of the throttle body. Clean off the ETM, at least on the outside.

I don't blame you for wanting to dump the car...

So just remove that hard plastic innercooler hose, and spray up in there? Any safety/fire issues, or risk of damaging anything else?

          Thanks man.

Obviously, the car will not run with the hose disconnected. But, if you have a helper, have them turn the key to posII and back to posI while you have the spray can in hand. That will open the butterfly for a second and let you clean it better.

Leave the air hose off for a few minutes to let the spray dry. Make sure the hose is reconnected securly before you drive off.

Any residual TB cleaner inside the manifold will burn off rather quickly in the cylinders.

Use a shop cloth/old T shirt to wipe up any dripping TB cleaner.
