1999 V70 TCM V70-XC70 1999

I recently purchased a 1999 V70 w/ auto trans and a known transmission control module issue for $1,500. The car has 130,000 miles and other than the TCM is in good shape. While driving the car home I also noticed the check engine light was on.

The previous owner (who is also the original owner) said the car was running fine until he jump started it one day. Since then the transmission has not been working correctly. He took the vehicle to his mechanic (who happens to be my mech also) and got codes P0605 and P1057. They cleared the codes and P0605 came right back. My mechanic suggested taking the car to a dealer or a Volvo specific mechanic that might be able to reprogram the TCM.

I took the car to a local Volvo dealer who found a stored code ECM-530D - TCM missing signal. They said they could replace the TCM for $835.00 I asked about using a used TCM or reprogramming the existing TCM and was told they would not put in used parts and did not have the ability to reprogram.

I am currently checking with a few other shops locally, but I was wondering what other options I might have. I have read online that I can just plug in another new or used TCM and it might work?

Thanks for any input.

Hit the junk yards! Just pull out the old one and put in the new one, it should work like a champ. Barring any fried wires from incorrectly jumping the car.

I got a used TCM and switched them out. It is working great and the check engine light went off! Thanks for the quick response Klaus! It helped me save $600+ by not fixing it at the dealer (not sure why I thought that was a good idea in the first place).

Now I can put that $ into fixing a few other things on the car.
