Motor Mount S70

I posted a couple weeks ago about vibration I was having at idle with my 1998 S70 T5 automatic transmission. It was barely noticeable at first, but got very bad this past weekend. When I pulled off the passenger front wheel and pulled back the protective cover I saw that the motor mount had completely collapsed. Also, when I started the engine while the car was supported on that side, there was no vibration at all. I would like to know if the $20 motor mounts are any good. I see some for $20 on IPD and FCP Groton and I see OEM going for $83.00 at the dealer. Does anyone have any experience with the cheap ones? I see brands like URO. Just want to know if its worth the extra money for the genuine part. Typically, I buy the genuine part when its a suspension or engine part.

Thanks.....Thomas

A word about genuine parts; The oem mount has been redesigned since original.
They have a 1 year unlimmited mile warranty.
If dealer installed, warranty is 2 years.

    Motor Mount S70 2001

I have an '01 S60 2.4T and it has the vibration at idle.
This thread indicates that it is motor mounts, which is not surprising.
Can I replace the upper mount myself?
Handy, with tools, but have to work outside in 20-40 degree weather.
Is the upper one the most prone to fail?
Do I have to buy the entire bracket assembly?
Sounds like the lower one(s) need to be done by an independent shop, which I have used a lot before.
    Right?
    Thanks,
    S'V'

There is only one lower mount that breaks, passenger side next to the crank gear. You need a jack stand, a floor jack (the only kind, never use your spare tire jack), and a 2X4 to jack the engine up about 1 inch.

The top mount can be visually inspected and is prone to break. You should be able to replace it. You do need a jack under the engine to jack it up a little, or you are strong enough to push the engine back and forth. No the entire upper mount doesn't come off, just the rubber part.

Hi, just used OEM motor mount in my 2005V70. the body mounting boltd were rusted and tight. allmost no space for propper tools. it took a while to find out propper extension to loose them. used a piece of wood under oil pan to support the engine weight and get the motor mount of.

tools- suggest buying a good breaker bar. parts- I have used the fcp aftermarkets and the OEMs. IMHO the rubber seems to be better molded onto the steel with the OEMs. I had engine oil drippage onto the rubber and OEM seems to have held up longer. But as Klaus said, you might just want to save some kronar and worry about it in 2 or 3 years....

I've used the cheaper poly upper motor mounts from FCP, and I found they transferred vibrations. I would stick with OEM. Those OEM lower mounts seem to last a pretty good while.

It is my opinion that when you save money, you get what you pay for.

Go ahead, try it. Heck, if it lasts 2 years, it paid for itself.

Try to loosen the bolts before jacking the engine up an inch. Be careful under there! Jack stand is required.
