tranny or shiftlock light 850 1996

I have a 96 850 turbo and the orange arrow in dash i guess its for winter mode or shiftlock light comes on and flashes and seems as if the tranny is slipping a little but it goes was wondering if anyone can tell me if my winter switch has gone bad or if tranny is going but it doesnt do it all the time sometimes its fine like nothing is wrong do you think maybe a fluid change would help im lost hope its a easy fix PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

    The cold weather seems to cause this problem. I had the same problem on a reallly cold day and then it went away. The grease on the switch may get hard or the metal contacts may shrink in the cold.

    The flashing arrow light indicates a fault in the trans or control systems. 96 model will need a scan tool to diagnose the problem. Most common cause of this light is a faulty gear position sensor, also known as a PNP switch. Bad winter switch will not cause this light to flash.
